ADULT OFFENDER SERVICES PROGRAM

Recognizing the issues of jail overcrowding, increasing court backlogs and soaring costs of correctional facilities and programs, the District Attorney’s Office created the Adult Offender Services program in 2006.

The mission of the Adult Offender Services program (AOS) is to hold first-time, non-violent offenders accountable for their actions while providing intervention and supervision resulting in positive decision making and productive citizenship.

All cases considered for the AOS program are initially screened by a Deputy District Attorney in our Filing Division.  After this initial screening an AOS Officer interviews the defendant to determine eligibility and appropriateness for the program. In order to be accepted into the AOS program, defendants are required to give a written statement pertaining to the offense and agree to a variety of conditions that must be met for the duration of the program.  Upon successful completion of the AOS program the District Attorney’s Office agrees not to file charges against the defendant, allowing them to avoid the life-long stigma of a felony conviction.

As District Attorney I envision the Adult Offender Services program becoming a national model for effectively dealing with adult offenders while saving our tax paying citizens thousands of hard earned dollars, as well as freeing our courts to handle our most violent and dangerous offenders.
